Elder Law

Our Elder Law practice focuses on helping seniors and their families cope with the legal issues that arise with aging.

These challenges may start when the senior needs additional assistance to safely remain at home or requires care in a facility such as a nursing home or assisted living residence. Families in this position often feel overwhelmed and don’t know how to proceed. This emotional strain is compounded by the financial burden of a long term care stay. Often government benefits, such as Medicaid and Veteran’s assistance, are needed to insure payment and continuity of care. Families may be unable to navigate these complex systems without assistance, missteps may result in lost time and benefits. Our comprehensive team approach to eligibility allows the family to concentrate on obtaining the best care available while we assist and advise the senior and their family in understanding and complying with benefit systems rules and regulations, thereby easing the stress of already overburdened family members.

As with all legal planning, it is best to prepare for the future in advance, and we can assist seniors with long term care planning and asset protection long before any illness is on the horizon or a crisis situation has occurred. With federal and state budget shortfalls, asset protection has become a much more complicated and time consuming process and competent professional advice is needed to avoid the myriad of pitfalls and traps that confront seniors trying to leave a legacy to their children and grandchildren.
